- The greatest dog breeds you only think you know
(greyhound discussion is past the pitbull section)
Summary: Though there are more greyhounds in homes than on the racetrack, most people have never met a greyhound in person and thus don’t immediately think of greyhounds when choosing a dog for adoption. People looking for low energy, indoor dogs would be pleasantly surprised to learn that greyhounds need just a few walks outside during the day, and are perfectly content to spend the rest of their time asleep inside the house. Rigorous daily exercise is not something that a greyhound needs, especially if the weather is very warm or very cold. Greyhounds, however, are not the right type of dog for people looking for a hiking buddy or a dog that can go outside in an unfenced area. Greyhounds have been bred for centuries to chase small animals, and taking a greyhound outside off-leash is usually dangerous.
